By now you have probably heard of Wordle.
The internet sensation has captured our attention and workplace productivity since January, when gaming burst onto the scene.
As you know, players must successfully guess a five-letter word in six attempts. With each guess, the letters change color to indicate how close you are to the correct answer.
A gray letter means it’s not in the word. When it’s yellow, you have the right letter but in the wrong place, while the green letters are where they should be.
Since then we have also seen a variety of wordle spinoffsincluding World, Quordle, HeardleWord Master, Dordle (two Wordle puzzles at once) and Crosswordle, which combines Wordle with crossword puzzles.

But whether you’re just starting your Wordle journey or just want to boost your stats, a little help never hurts. Here are some handy tips on how to master Wordle (and similar games).
Best First Word for Wordle
This is perhaps the most important step when playing Wordle: which word should I choose first? Even a mathematician tested an algorithm to help determine which seed words work best.
There are several different approaches. My technique: use a word with a lot of vowels, three to four to be precise. I often start with words like OILED, ABOUT or ADIEU. You can also try the wheel of fortune approach and focus on words with R, S, T, L, N, and E. For example, STERN or RENTS is a good word using several popular consonants.
This first guess should help you easily narrow down the other words you can choose. You may have a few letters available, or none at all. Based on your guess, focus on the letters you haven’t used yet.
Let’s say you are playing ABOUT and the O is green but the T is yellow. Try to find words with that O in the middle that not only include a T, but don’t use the A, B, or U. Also, in this case, don’t use the T at the end. The faster you can narrow down the letters and locations, the faster you will find a solution.
Don’t forget 5 letter words with double letters
This is where Wordle can sometimes get in your way. If you get stuck on a word and none of the other letters make sense, the answer may use the same letter more than once. That’s where Wordle’s virtual keyboard helps. Pay special attention to the letters you have. This can help you determine if you need to repeat a letter.
Wordle Archive provides additional practice
Practice makes perfect, right? If you are new to the game, there is a Word Archive available where you can play all the previous puzzles in the game. It’s a great way to practice guessing words and prepare for the latest daily puzzle.
